Cherolyn Knapp, B.Comm, LL.B, Q.Med

Cherolyn Knapp grew up on the shores of Georgian Bay in Owen Sound, Ontario and earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resources) from Toronto Metropolitan University in 1995. Before becoming a lawyer, Cherolyn worked in human resources, non-profit and business management roles, after which Cherolyn entered law school at the University of Ottawa and graduated cum laude in 2003. She was admitted to the Ontario bar in 2004 and practiced law there until December 2019. In 2019, she moved to British Columbia and was admitted to the bar there.

A passionate problem-solver, Cherolyn understands that most people prefer to have conflicts resolved rather than endure the financial and emotional costs and uncertainty of litigation. She has a great deal of insight into interpersonal dynamics and conflict. Cherolyn’s considerable skills are of assistance in business, workplace or non-profit situations as much as in the context of litigation.

As a litigation lawyer from 2004 to 2019, Cherolyn advised and advocated for employee, employer, individual and organizational clients in a broad range of employment, human rights and civil disputes, appearing before various levels of Court and Administrative Tribunals and negotiating numerous out of court resolutions. She was also the co-managing partner of a small law firm.

In 2019, Cherolyn opened Knapp Resolutions and now focuses her practice on helping people to navigate workplace and organizational conflict. She has conducted numerous investigations into allegations of bullying, harassment, discrimination and misconduct in various public, private and non-profit sector unionized and non-union environments. She has also been engaged as a mediator and facilitator to assist co-workers and professionals who are locked in disputes to find a path forward. She is frequently engaged as a trainer and consultant on topics related to conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion, negotiation and improving team functioning.

Cherolyn is an active community volunteer, including serving as a board member for AVI Health & Community Services, a mentor through CBABC and member of CBABC’s Provincial Council and a co-convenor of the BC Local Circle and Canada Chapter of the Association of Workplace Investigators. She is past-president of the Wellington Law Association and served many years on the Ontario Bar Association provincial Council and subcommittees. She has also served on boards of directors of non-profit organizations and volunteered in mentoring roles with lawyers and new Canadians.

Cherolyn is a member of the ADR Institute of British Columbia. She is a Qualified Mediator (Q.Med) through the ADR Institute of Canada and is registered as a Mediator of the Civil Rosters of Mediate BC and ADRBC. She is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association – BC Branch, Association of Workplace Investigators (Canadian Chapter) and Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of BC & Yukon.

Cherolyn also provides services as an Associate of ADR Education and the High Conflict Institute.
