B.Comm, LL.B, Q.Med
Cherolyn Knapp (she/her) grew up on the shores of Georgian Bay in Owen Sound, Ontario and earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resources) from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in 1995. Before becoming a lawyer, Cherolyn worked in human resources, non-profit and business management roles. Cherolyn entered law school at the University of Ottawa. She graduated cum laude in 2003 and was admitted to the Ontario bar in 2004.
As a litigation lawyer from 2004 to 2019, Cherolyn advised and advocated for employee, employer, individual and organizational clients in a broad range of employment, human rights and civil disputes, appearing before various levels of Court and Administrative Tribunals and negotiating numerous out of court resolutions. She was also the co-managing partner of a small, yet thriving law firm.
As a passionate problem-solver, Cherolyn understands that most people prefer to have conflicts resolved rather than endure the financial cost, emotional stress and uncertainty of formal legal proceedings. She has a great deal of insight into interpersonal dynamics and conflict. Cherolyn’s considerable skills are of assistance in business, workplace and non-profit situations as much as in the context of litigation.
In 2019, Cherolyn moved across the country to British Columbia, where she was also admitted to the bar. She subsequently opened Knapp Resolutions, through which she focuses her practice on helping people to navigate workplace and organizational conflict. She has conducted numerous investigations into allegations of bullying, harassment, discrimination and misconduct in various public, private and non-profit sector unionized and non-union environments. She has also been engaged as a mediator and facilitator to assist co-workers and professionals who are locked in disputes to find a path forward. She is frequently engaged as a trainer and consultant on topics related to conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion, negotiation and improving team functioning.
